Boy George Review/ Mean Girls : "Wednesdays We Wear Pink"

I always considered Boy George to be an edgy trendsetter. Someone who lives on the edge. But time and finding Jesus can definitely make a person change and that is exactly what happened last night.
After hearing 45 minutes worth of songs about God, Jesus, and "My God is bigger than your God"-- #LAskeez was almost ready to make a u-turn out of the venue when he finally played "Do you really want to hurt me?",  along with some other classics.  For all you Culture Club fans out there #LAskeez has some #skeez for you #skeezies ----The Culture Club is set to start recording a new album this year! Typically after a band records an album they go on tour so expect some good things later this year. You heard it first from #LAskeez
As far as the Belasco Theater is concerned, it is in some desperate need of ventilation! People where sweating buckets inside the venue and that is just not acceptable. This wasn't an underground warehouse show so there should of been a few pocket holes of air circulating the joint.

Mean Girls

"On Wednesdays we wear pink"
My oh my how time flies.
Today is the 10 year anniversary of Mean Girls!
Mean Girls was an automatic pop culture phenomena much in the same way as the movie Clueless.
Gays, teens, and everyone else will find the antics in the movies relatable and hilarious for years to come. Undoubtedly a timeless classic.

Although the movie is funny from beginning to end; #LAskeez's narrowed it down to 5 of our favorite scenes.

1. "Wednesdays We Wear Pink"

2. "Evil took a human form in Regina George"

3. "If you're going to drink, I'd rather you do it in the house"

4. "She doesn't even go here"

5. "I can't go to Taco Bell, I'm on an ALL CARB DIET"

Re-watch Mean Girls today in honor of the 10 year anniversary! Its just as funny as if you watched it for the first time 10 years ago today.

Boy George

Boy George.
Known as apart of the Culture Club in the early 80's and then became his own house hold name.
It's been YEARS since he last went on tour.
BUT tonight he will be performing at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
#LAskeez is excited to check out the venue and Boy George for the first time. So excited that #LAskeez may show up with random braids and colored ribbons in our hair.
From what #LAskeez knows about the Belasco Theater is that it was constructed in the mid 1920s,
since then it's been through many owners and changes; but was recently restored back to it's original state in 2011.
Be ready #skeezies for tomorrow's full report on the show.

Here are #LAskeez's top 5 Culture Club songs:

1. Culture Club--Time

2. Culture Club--Do You Really Want To Hurt Me

3. Culture Club--Karma Chameleon

4. Culture Club--I'll Tumble 4 Ya

5. Culture Club--Miss Me Blind

Boy George followed up by sports are typically not in the same sentence but that's #LAskeez for you and that's why the #skeezies keep reading.

Sports Recap:

Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 1-4 yesterday and force a game 7 tomorrow at 7:00pm.

The Clippers face the Golden State Warriors tonight for Game 5 of the playoffs. Tip off is at 7:30pm.

The Dodgers were supposed to play the Minnesota Twins today over in Minnesota but the game is postponed due to extreme weather conditions.

You Stay Classy San Diego/ Only Lovers Left Alive/ Clippers

#LAskeez decided to switch it up a bit over the weekend and headed over to San Diego.
Although I once considered San Diego to be nothing more than LA's small and boring stepsister of the south; I have to admit that it has grown on me over the years.
Were San Diego lacks in terms of big city excitement, it definitely makes up in natural beauty and sheer chill and relaxation. Cute Neighborhoods like North Park and Hillcrest along with beautiful sights like Balboa Park, make San Diego a good weekend getaway.

Saturday was a very patriotic day.
#LAskeez  had an exclusive tour on the United States Coast Guard Bertholf Ship. It's typically in Alameda but they were in port in SD. The Bertholf can be found patrolling various parts of South America or up North near Alaska busting illegal fisheries among other cool stuff.
It was quite a memorable experience and it definitely makes me appreciate (even more) the men and women that serve and protect the United States.

The Bertholf in all it's Glory

The little boats on the big boat

The whole ship looks like this. Very confusing to remember.

After our tour #LAskeez spent the remainder of the evening hanging out in Hillcrest and had the chance to watch the movie +Only lovers left alive  at the +Landmark Cinemas. To sum it up it's about how present day vampires would be, without the whole glamorization.
The cinematography is awesome and the movie has a bunch of music related references.
It's definitely a movie to catch.
Here's a trailer so you #skeezies can decided for yourself whether or not you are interested.

Hillcrest Sign in the Evening

Sunday #LAskeez drove up to North Park to check out some vinyl at Off the Record. Then headed back down to relax at Spanish Landings before the drive in traffic back to LA.

San Diego was an impromptu adventure but it was a fun one nevertheless. #LAskeez is happy to be back in Los Angeles where the smog makes the best sunsets in the world and the traffic is always heavier.

As Ron Burgundy would say:

Sports recap:

Dodgers lost yesterday to the Colorado Rockies 6-1.

Clippers lost to the Warriors 97-118.

The Kings play the Sharks tonight for Game 6 of the NHL playoffs.

Clippers two cents:

#LAskeez has never been fully able to become a Clipper fan because of Donald Sterling. It's been no secret here in LA for MANY years that he is a racist. The NBA can no longer sweep his racist comments/allegations under the rug, thanks to +TMZ releasing the tape.  The Clippers deserve a respectable team owner and the +NBA must take immediate action.

LA Sushi/ LA Sports Talk

#LAskeez had the opportunity last May to visit Japan.
Since that visit, eating sushi has not been comparable.
Until #LAskeez checked out SugarFish.
Care to check out the best California Roll? Don't be silly, that's not even sushi! No creative rolls like that here.
Just delicious omakase.
The restaurant has 9 locations, all delicious but I have noticed more frequent visits from sushi Chef Nozawa (creator of SugarFish) over at the Downtown LA and the Beverly Hills locations.
Don't expect to have any interaction with the sushi Chef, there are none.
If you are expecting that you need to go to Nozawa Bar in Beverly Hills, seats about 8 and runs you about $250 a person but it's one of the best sushi experiences around town. $250 may sound very steep but hey it's cheaper than a roundtrip ticket to Tokyo.
#Skeezies can't claim to have had sushi until you have tried SugarFish and/or have been to Japan.
The warm rice, melt in your mouth fish will have you wanting more.
All servers make sure you eat each piece of sushi correctly (with or without soy sauce) and the iced green tea tastes like green tea--not just water with a few leaves.
When you #skeezies finally decide to visit please don't be like the folks that recently sat next to me. All they ordered was salmon and used forks.

Now that you are probably craving sushi.
It's time for the a LA Sports recap.

+Clipper Nation  now leads the series 2-1 against the Golden State Warriors after last nights Game 3 victory  of 98-96. Hooray.
Game 4 is this Sunday at 12:30pm.

+Los Angeles Dodgers suffered another loss to the Phillies 7-3. If it's any consolation at least the fans received Kershaw Bobble Heads.

annd...

The Los Angeles Kings beat the San Jose Sharks last night 6-3.

BBQing and Dodger Talk

About a month ago Eagle Rock welcomed Max City BBQ to the neighborhood.
Before #LAskeez  headed to the Dodger game, a local pit stop for some BBQ was a must.
What #LAskeez  already knew about the place is that it was funded through Kickstarter.
Kickstarter is an amazing way to gain the funds to start a business or whatever type of idea it is that you have.
It was kinda awesome to see an actual kickstarter campaign materialize and experience it.
The inside of the restaurant is a little smaller than anticipated but there are two picnic tables outside.
If you're lucky not to encounter two families out there already eating than you must make yourself comfy and take in a little outdoor breeze.
Although it was hard to decided between the ribs and bisket; #LAskeez ordered and throughly savored the tri-tip sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and baked beans. If you like to drown your meat in bbq sauce you're in luck because there are two bbq bottles on every table consisting of one spicy and one non-spicy bbq sauce.

The Dodgers played against the Philadelphia Phillies last night and sadly lost 3-2 during extra innings.
It was a chilly night at the Chavez Ravine but that wasn't a problem since all attendees received a Dodger Fleece Blanket giveaway!

Earth Day/ Clippers/ Chromeo & Hauschka

Happy Earth Day!
Recycle Reuse Reduce!
That's right use your canvas bag (in LA you have no choice but to use your own bag otherwise you get charged 10 cents), dust off that reusable water canister, and take a shorter shower.
Today is the one time out of the year were everyone become's eco-friendly.
Unfortunately the next 364 days will have no regard for the environment.
But hey at least the Earth has one day out of the year, better than nothing.

Earth Day 2014

#LAskeez has nothing but love for the Los Angeles Lakers but since we all know they are not in the NBA playoffs this year, I feel a sense of obligation to still report on the other LA team...The Clippers.
The Clippers certainly have done a few things this season that have ticked off Laker Fans such as covering up the championship banners with Clipper selfies and recently hung Clipper balloons on the Laker statues.
As they say; "Haters gonna hate."

The Clippers tied the series last night against the Golden State Warriors.
The 40 point win was very impressive.
Let's see if they can carry the momentum over to the Warriors home court.

There's two great shows going on tonight.

Chromeo will be in Santa Monica for a KCRW apogee session.

Over at the Masonic Lodge inside the Hollywood Forever Hauschka will perform.

What's the #skeez tonight?
#LAskeez  will spend another evening at Dodger stadium.

The Cure

Hope everyone had a great Easter and for those of you #skeezies that don't celebrate Easter, I hope you had a great weekend.
I'm assuming by now the desert has officially cleared out from all the Coachella attendees.
Two full weekends of music with over 100+ bands leads to nothing but a great time.

Anyway today's topic is Robert Smith.
For those of you who don't know who that is...shame on you.
Robert Smith is The Cure.
A very young Robert Smith
Today is his birthday and #LAskeez will share with you 10 of our favorite Cure songs.

1. Jumping  Someone Else's Train

2. Kill an Arab

3. 10:15 On A Saturday Night

4. Lullaby

5. A Forest

6. Close to Me

7. Fascination Street

8. Just Like Heaven

9. Love Cats

10. Love Song

Narrowing it down to 10 favorite The Cure songs was actually a lot harder than it actually appears.
Geek out on The Cure today in honor of Robert Smith's 55th birthday!

Dodgers/ Coachella Weekend 2 Day 3

Happy Easter!
The Chavez Ravine had another visit from #LAskeez last night as the Dodgers faced the Arizona Diamond Backs. The Dodgers were down 4-0 but with the help of Andre Ethier's 3 run homer and a couple of other runs the Dodgers won 6-8. The crowd was excited with the "W" and giveaway mats.

Record Store Day/ Farmers Market/ Coachella Weekend 2 Day 2

It's Record Store Day! Go to your nearest Record Store and appreciate it. Buy a record. Vinyl is awesome and some stores are even offering a free record (used) and giving away donuts.

Record Store Day @ Amoeba Music Hollywood

Let's talk about yesterday. For any #skeezies that have not been to The Grove, it's in the heart of LA. You can shop, eat, or watch a movie there. The Farmers Market which has been around since the early 1930s (way before the developer of The Grove was even born) is a staple of LA and is a brisk walk away. You can find just about anything you crave inside the Farmers Market. It's been awhile since #LAskeez has been to New Orleans but you can't always explain a craving. Luckily the Farmers Market has Cajun food!
Gumbo, alligator strips, hush puppies--they have it. #LAskeez stuck to a classic and went with a shrimp po boy. It wasn't the best. But it did satisfy the craving and is considerably cheaper than a trip out to New Orleans.

Happy Good Friday #skeezies! And I don't mean Kanye West's G.O.O.D Friday single releases from last year, I'm talking about the "Good Friday" that means Easter egg hunts and baskets.
Most of you have school or work off today so take advantage of it and go out!
#LAskeez will be immersing into the city today which typically leads to some good blogging.
