Fleetwood Mac // Hot Chip // Chet Faker

#LAskeez hopes all the #skeezies out there kept it safe and didn't get into too any scuffles while looking for those bargains during Black Friday. Now that it has come and gone it's now time to get back to the shows and trust us, there's some good ones.

Fleetwood Mac will be performing at the Forum in Inglewood tonight for their second night here in LA! If you can't catch them tonight they will be back at the Forum Dec 6th. So there's plenty of opportunities to catch them. Especially if you're willing to go down to San Diego or Anaheim to see them before they return to the Forum. Considering all the tour dates, So Cal clearly is Pro-Fleetwood Mac. Tickets range anywhere between $60-690+. Show starts at 8pm so make sure to get their on time.

Over in Hollywood at the Avalon, Hot Chip will be ready for the dance floor tonight with a DJ set. Looks like the set time for this gig is at 10pm. Tickets are around $25+. After tonights show they take off to Mexico, come back to states for a New York show and then back home to the UK they go.

Today's exclusive event is hosted by Red Bull Sound Select. Tonight marks the 29th night of "30 days in LA". Over at Mack Sennett Studios (which happens to be one of the oldest studios in LA) Chet Faker who is an #LAskeez favorite will be performing to a very intimate crowd. Like all the other Red Bull events the tickets to this show were only $15.   There's limited parking near the studio so Red Bull has set up a shuttle system. If you park in Lot F over at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles the shuttle will pick you up and drop you back off.

Black Cadillacs // Isaac Brothers & the Phantoms // Wunder Wunder,

#LAskeez would like to personally wish all the #skeezies a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Today is the day to over indulge and go into a food coma because that's the American thing to do.
If you're on the road traveling to your family, have safe travels and don't pick up any hitchhikers because that's just weird.

There are very slim pickings for shows tonight. As a matter of fact the only event we can recommend is Night 27 of the "30 Days in LA". Red Bull Sound Select will be presenting a night of bowling or as they call it "Rock and Bowl Turkey Shootout". This event is FREE with rsvp of course. Rsvp does not guarantee admission and works on a first come first serve bases. Live music/dj sets will be by the Black Cadillacs, Isaac Brothers & the Phantoms, Wunder Wunder, and Hands. If you show up dressed as any of the Big Lebowski characters then you can potentially win the raffle that enters you to win Coachella 2015 tickets! That's a deal.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and safe travels!

Warm Brew

It's the eve of Thanksgiving and this is around the time were #skeezies realize that they need to go to the market to buy last minute food. Or maybe not. Bottom line,  "Holiday mode" is officially in full force. Some people are already camping in front of their favorite stores waiting to tackle who ever is in their way of a good deal. Will #LAskeez be in anyones way? Nope, not this year not ever. We're about that online shopping life. It's more convenient but then again everyone has their preferences.

Perhaps the Holidays have most artists at home with their families which is why there aren't too many shows for #LAskeez to recommend today but here's what is going on tonight:

Night 26 of Red Bull's Sound Select "30 Days in LA" presents--- Warm Brew. They're a couple of guys from LA that are bringing you some hip hop. Red Bull Studios (in Santa Monica) will be hosting a full on barbecue accompanied by the sounds of Warm Brew. Price of admission? FREE! with rsvp of course. Rsvp does not guarantee admission so get there early for your FREE bbq and music. There's no better way to kick off your Thanksgiving than this event.

For all you OC #skeezies out there, Justin Timberlake will be over in your hood at the Honda Center tonight!

Justin Timberlake // Peter Hook // The Moth Storyslam

#LAskeez is guilty of disappearing from time to time. From here on out we pledge to stop the disappearance acts and keep it going on the daily for the #skeezies.
It's a very pleasant Monday with temperatures reaching a chilly 79˚, yes because here in LA 79˚ is chilly. Enough with the formalities, here are todays top events.

Justin Timberlake will be bringing sexy back tonight at the Forum in Inglewood. Tickets range from $70 to VIP packages that skyrocket all the way up to $570+. People love JT and want to be apart of the 20/20 experience. Show starts at 8pm, and if you're paying the big $$$ make sure you get there on time.

So maybe paying a ton of money to see "JT" isn't your thing. That's okay because you can always go see the legendary Peter Hook perform for $23 (a ticket) at the intimated Glass House venue over in Pomona. Don't know who Peter Hook is? Well for starters he was the bassist for Joy Division. Yeaaah Joy Division, he was in the band and knew Ian Curtis himself. Peter Hook is one of  #LAskeez's favorite bass players. His baselines are like no other and very distinctive. Not to mention, his involvement in New Order goes to show you how dynamic this guy is. Doors are 8pm and to keep it real this is a show you need to witness.

Tonight marks the 24th night of the Redbull Sound Select "30 days in LA". The events are slowly coming to an end but we are certain that these last 6 events will be absolutely amazing. #LAskeez would of said "epic" but we don't support that overly used word.
On the 24th night, The Moth Storyslam will be invading Los Globos (here in Silverlake). The price of admission...FREE with rsvp that is. The Moth Storyslam is a night of story telling from people in the audience. Most of these storytellers always happen to be aspiring writers, screenwriters, etc but nevertheless its a good time. Everyone needs to check it out at least once.

Tegan & Sara // Ms. Lauryn Hill // Culture Club

Happy Hump Day #skeezies
#LAskeez has today's top three concert recommendations for you all. The fan favorites are always the FREE shows so we will start with that.

Tegan and Sara. These identical twin sisters have some of the most loyal fans around. Today they will be performing at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa for FREE. Doors open at 7pm. The first 100 fans will be treated to complimentary valet and if you drive a Lexus, you get some sort of upgrade hook up. This is a 21+ only event and RSVPing is required. If you felt bad about missing their show yesterday at the Hollywood Palladium, today will more than make up for that.

Another OC event going on is Lauryn Hill at the Observatory.  Forget about her past antics of showing up late to her own shows, she should be on time tonight. For about $60+ a ticket she better. Lauryn Hill tonight almost sounds too good to be true.

Bringing it back to LA! The Culture Club should of been performing tonight at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center. Unfortunately, the reunion was cancelled two days ago due to Boy George's medical condition. Hopefully he recovers soon! And hopefully you #skeezies got your money back!

The Psychedelic Furs // The Presets // Chance the Rapper

It's finally starting to feel like fall around here but let's see how long that lasts.
Anyway like always there's some good shows going on for the #skeezies to enjoy and lucky for you #LAskeez is here to tell you all about it.

For starters,  flashback to the 80s and you have the Psychedelic Furs. The show is taking place at the Fonda and tickets are still available through AXS for $45 each. Opening up for them will be the LemonHeads. Show starts at 8pm so expect the 'heartbreak beat' Psychedelic Furs to go on around 10pm. It's not everyday that these guys come out and perform so take advantage of it! Although there's always the possibility that they could play for an 80s night somewhere in LA.

Back to modern days and you have the Australian duo known as The Presets. They're currently on their "Check Yo Ponytail tour" and will be making a pitstop at the new Regent Theater. Like the Echo and The Satellite, The Regent likes to have their main acts perform very late into the evening but in LA that's how you keep the party going. The Presets will go on at 11:45pm so be patient. Tickets are still available through TicketFly for $28. FIY there's a low ticket warning so hurry it up.

On the 15th night of the '30 days in LA', Red Bull Sound Select presents--- Chance the Rapper. The Chi-town rapper will be at the House of Blues LA. Tickets were $15 but are now demanding a minimum of $72 on stubhub. That's just how it is. Greedy folks always making it hard for the fans to a enjoy what  they love.

Foo Fighters // Foster the People // RAC // Death from Above 1979 // Slayer

Hope the #skeezies  are ready because the evening is full of shows.
#LAskeez will be highlighting not one, not two, but FIVE shows!

The show that has everyone talking is the Foo Fighter show. Big deal they play all the time right? NO! This show is on a league of it's own. Why? Well they're going to be jamming out at the Roxy. Imagine that, the Foo Fighters at the Roxy. This was a "secret" show they decided to put together and the only ways in are to know someone or win through an Amoeba or AXS contest. You better believe that Dave Grohl is going to have a lot of fun with this.

Alright Foster the People. Known for their Pumped Up Kicks and former month long resident holders to our beloved The Echo venue a few years back--they have long graduated from the Echo Park scene and are now charging  $51-67 per ticket to see them perform at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. Doors are at 7pm and there's two opening acts so expect them late into the evening. Tickets are still available via ticket master.

One of #LAskeez's all time favorite bands goes to Death From Above 1979. They will be performing tonight for the Red Bull Sound Select '30 days in LA'. Tonight marks the 14th night and DFA1979 will be giving the new Regent Theatre a true 'breaking in'. Like all other Red Bull events these tickets were only $15. These two Canadian guys really know how to fill a room with a ton of sound so take some earplugs if you want to preserve some of your hearing. Trust us, you will still be able to hear plenty with the earplugs on.

If you can handle DFA1979 and want a little more SLAYER can definitely fill that void. These metal guys from Huntington Park will be shredding the Forum. These tickets are pricey...starting at $70-300. Those prices are hardcore.

Lastly, For $34 (Tickets still available via AXS) you can head over to the Fonda and check out RAC. Don't be shocked if there are a few surprised guests that join him on stage. Maybe Tegan and Sara, Kele, Tokyo Police Club...who knows. He is a remix artist collective which should translate on the stage.

Misfits // Tame Impala // Reignwolf

#LAskeez would like to wish everyone a Happy Veterans Day. Yes, we are fully aware that it was yesterday but for the people that serve this country, they deserve a "thank you" everyday. #LAskeez took Veterans Day seriously and went to the Arclight to watch Fury which is a movie that takes you through an intense 24hrs of a new recruit. Don't worry that's all the spoilers #LAskeez is giving away.
The show goes on like always and today is no exception. Alright #skeezies here it is---

The Misfits.
They don't need much of an introduction. They ARE punk rock and have been since 1977. The Majestic Ventura Theatre will be presenting the Misfits. The show is all ages so children beware and enter at your own risk. Doors at are 7pm and the price of admission is $22. Opening up for them will be Winchester Rebels, Neblina, and Fuse. In other words expect Misfits to take the stage later into the evening.

Now over at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Center, the cute boys from Australia (not local hipsters) that everyone seems to love known as Tame Impala will be performing at 7:30pm. Their psychedelic sounds will be filling the Shrine. Opening for them will be Delicate Steve. Face value for these ticket were $35 and resale is currently double. This is the most relaxed show of the evening so if you're not down for the get down, stick to this show.

Tonight marks the 12th night of the Red Bull Sound Select "30 days in LA". On the 12th night Reignwolf will reign the intimate Mint venue with sounds that will delight you. Like all other Red Bull shows, the tickets were a bargain of $15. His guitar skills will most definitely leave everyone in attendance satisfied. No Red Bull necessary to get you through this show.

::BONUS::
As a friendly reminder--as we mentioned Monday, First Aid Kit has made there way to LA from the OC and will be performing at the Wiltern tonight for $25.

Monday, November 10, 2014

Judas Priest // First Aid Kit // A Night at Sonos Studio

Monday is back but never fear #skeezies there's still plenty of shows for #LAskeez to talk about.

If you're still on a high from yesterday's Bad Religion's show---The Judas Priest and Steel Panther show over at the Nokia Theatre, might be right up your alley. Unfortunately, this isn't a Redbull Sound Select show which means the tickets to see Judas Priests are hailing normal ticket prices like in the $40-100 range.

Jumping over to the Santa Ana Observatory, the Swedish girls known as First Aid Kit are back in town. Tickets are $25. If you can wait until Wednesday you don't have to make the drive down to the OC and can catch them at the Wiltern for the same $25 price.

Tonight marks the 10th night of the Red Bull Sound Select. What's going on? #LAskeez isn't too sure, but the event is called "A night at Sonos Studio". Any event held at Sonos Studio is memorable and magical and it's a little bigger than your living room so it's really intimate. For $0, yeah which also translates to FREE why wouldn't you want to check this event out.

Bad Religion

Okay #skeezies---tonight marks the 9th night of the "30 days in LA" hosted by  Red Bull Sound Select. What better band to see on a Sunday evening than Bad Religion aaand they're playing at the Mayan. If you haven't been to the Mayan it's not that big and it's a venue were you would totally want to see Bad Religion perform. The price of admission is only $15! But of course all those $15 tickets sold out in a heart beat. The only way to get in is to purchase them from some greedy non-fan for an obscene amount of money. Typically #LAskeez has more show options but Bad Religion is the only highlight of the day. Enjoy and tune in tomorrow!

Digitalism // Odd Future Carnival 2014 // The Downtown Festival

What a night. #LAskeez didn't make it to the fools gold show but we did make it out to see Rhye and Yacht. The new Regent Theatre is awesome and that's all due to the efforts and money that the folks over from the Echo invested into the venue. Tonight's another busy night so get ready for this #skeezies

Starting with the non festival show---Digitalism. The German duo will be at the El Rey tonight. For $22 you can dance the night away. Doors open at 8pm but #LAskeez would venue to say that they won't probably go on until 10pm.

The 3rd Annual Odd Future Carnival Festival is today at the LA Coliseum. The Line is vey solid. From Pharrell, OFWGKTA, Murs, to Rick Ross to name a few. Tickets for this event are ranging anywhere between $85-225. Bottom line you better have some deep pockets if you're planning on attending or have a good hookup

Day 2 of the Downtown Festival which happens to be the last day as well is going on tonight. There's nothing like a new venue that you get to break in with equally excited concert goers that realize that this new venue is a game changer in the LA music scene.

The line-up with set times looks like this:
7:30-8:45 Dj Travis Holcombe
8:30-9:10 Corners
9:30-10:10 Lydia Ainsworht
10:30-11:10 Mr Elevator and the Brain Hotel
                                       11:30 Connan Mockasin

Fools Gold // Rhye // The Downtown Festival

Oh man so many options tonight. #LAskeez has access to all three shows tonight so we will see if we can pull off seeing everyone that we're about to tell you #skeezies about.

First up, Fools Gold. They're a band that really knows how to fuse different sounds together and make it work. The show will be held at the Echo for $10! That's a steal. The video that's off to the side is a remix of their song "I'm in love".

Rhye will be bringing his soulful voice over to the Cathedral Sanctuary at the Immanuel Presbyterian tonight. Face value was going for $60 and there's still some tickets under value on Stubhub so if you're in the mood for some soothing music, this is your show. This is a venue #LAskeez has yet to attend, so we are more than excited to check it out tonight. Doors open at 7pm.

It isn't a weekend unless there's a festival and tonight The Downtown Festival begins. It's at the NEW Regent Theater. Here's tonight's line up:
7:30-8:30 Dj Travis Holocomb 8:30-9:00 Sage Caswell
 9:20-9:50 Beginners
          10:10-10:50 Jerome LOL
11:15-?? YACHT

So much to see. So little time!

Mariachi El Bronx // Julian Casablancas & the Voidz // Mayer Hawthorne

Happy Hump Day to all the #skeezies
To celebrate getting through half of the work week #LAskeez has some shows to tell you about.

Alright tonight at the El Rey, Mariachi El Bronx will be performing for $27 a ticket. If you've never heard of them don't let the name fool you. They're not Mexican nor are they from The Bronx. Just five guys from LA with names like Brad and Ken that play some music that sounds like a cross between ska/punk/rock/mariachi fused together which ends up meshing well. Which is why you need to check them out today. As a bonus, The Tijuana Panthers will be opening up!

Julian Casablancas & the Voidz will be performing what always seems to sound like an experimental set tonight at the Observatory. The admission for this garage band practice sound? $35 big ones. If you're lucky maybe he'll decide to sing one or two songs from The Strokes.

If you haven't heard already. RedBull Sound Select is hosting 30 shows in 30 days all throughout the city. Tonight's show will include Mayer Hawthorne over at the Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. The guy can do it all---sing, rap, produce, play instruments, etc. That's probably why he was nominated for a grammy but now a days who isn't. He's djing tonight and the RSVP list is still open which means it's a FREE  event. Wax on Wax will perform as well. So if you're on a budget and still want to go out, this is your show.

Kathleen Hanna & The Julie Ruin

Yeah Yeah it's Monday and the #skeezies have the Monday blues but trust me it will disappear after you read what #LAskeez has to share.

Last night #LAskeez had the opportunity to see the movie "The Punk Singer" which was followed by a Q&A session with Kathleen Hanna! If you haven't seen the movie it can be found on Netflix, Amazon and other streaming services. Her raw honesty and no bullshit attitude that reflected off the screen and into her replies to the questions made #LAskeez admire this woman more than ever. She named Nirvana's top hit "smells like teen spirit",  started the Riot Girl movement, and embodies what a badass is. Enlightening people about feminism was her contribution to history and when #LAskeez had the chance to meet her yesterday we were in awe. She is definitely a humbled living legend and society needs her more than ever.

Now that #LAskeez has gone on a little rant about how awesome Kathleen Hanna is, we should probably mention that "The Julie Ruin" will be performing tonight for FREE at USC! Yes, you read that right. The Julie Ruin will be performing for FREE tonight at USC. Come out and see her perform. Something tells us that it's going to be a great show. It starts at 8pm so get there early! Here are few photos from last night.
