Summer Nights in the Garden

Hate to break it to you #skeezies but unfortunately Summer is coming to an end. For most, school has already started and it's back to the books and education.
However, that doesn't mean #skeezies can't enjoy the last FREE "Summer Nights in the Garden" over at the Natural History Museum! Yep, if you haven't checked it out this is your last opportunity to do so until next Summer.
Have a good time--listen to some great DJs, get your grub from Food Trucks, take a botanical garden tour, and savor the moment.
Before you head out the door, don't forget to RSVP!

Made in America is tomorrow so tune in for specifics first thing in the morning.

Ty Segall // Jack Johnson

#LAskeez here reporting to all #skeezies.
It's Thursday and the 3 day holiday weekend is a day away.
Have some pre-weekend fun and head down to the Echo.
Ty Segall is going to be performing.

Tickets are $12.
He's an OC boy with a little know how on the drums, guitar, and mic. Why not check this guy out that's all the rage?

Or you can always go check out Jack Johnson at The Greek Theatre  if that's your thing.

Prohibition Finds

Hello #skeezies!
#LAskeez needed a little break after the whole FYF fest weekend.
It was intense.

Last night #LAskeez had a personal tour of The Millennium Biltmore Hotel. It's one of the older hotels in LA and shy of 100yrs old with loads of history. For example as #LAskeez entered a beautiful ballroom that looked very similar to something in the movie The Shinning, we were lead through a secret door that blended into the wall and could only be opened with a knife which followed into a hidden tunnel that was used during the prohibition era. It was surreal to be walking through so much hidden history. Unexpected adventures are always the best and it's what #LAskeez is all about. This was an experience that most people will never get to witness first hand which is why I must share it with the #skeezies.

Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles

#LAskeez is still processing the experience so no mentions of any shows today.

FYF Day 1 Recap / Day 2 Musts

Good morning #skeezies now that day 1 of FYF is behind us, here is some of the good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm sad to say that for the first day of this much anticipated festival, there was a whole lot of ugly! Sure the talented artists did their thing and did not disappoint, but all of the fun and excitement did not quite make-up for the poor festival management and planning on the part of the production team. First off - the mile + line that attendees had to walk through was a sight to see. Everyone was confused and had half-serious doubts that there was even an actual festival at all. For a second there we wondered if FYF was just supposed to be a long line were you ate bacon wrapped hotdogs.
Upon finally entering the festival and I'm talking about 2 hours later, the layout of the event was a sight to behold. For some reason the event planners thought it would be a good idea to set-up the event in a U-shape that wrapped from the west side of the colosseum on the corner of Exposition Blvd and Vermont - all the way over to the east side of the colosseum on the corner of Martin Luther King Blvd and Vermont! WOW! Yes and there were no "cut-sies" through the front/Vermont side of the venue.
The ugly does not end there however, the set brilliantly referred to as "The Arena,"  located inside of the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena was such a disappointing mess and possibly closed? for half of the day. #LAskeez sadly attempted to watch Chet Faker in The Arena and failed. After walking around the entire Arena - every single door was closed off and what resulted was just confused and disgruntled event attendees that were left trying to push pass security guards to no avail. What-a-mess.

Alright enough of the ugly. Here are some of the highlights from last night's event:

Interpol.
Yes they were wonderful. They are back and classier than ever.

Here are today's top 5:

Dear FYF,

I hope you're less disorganized today.

Thank You,
#LAskeez

FYF FEST

One of the most anticipated days in music and LA histerdom has finally arrived! That's right #Skeezies FYF starts today. There are many things to look forward to this weekend - whether it's people watching, the excitement and curiosity of this festival being at a new venue, or the the sheer talent that will be there, this "small" festival has evolved and #LAskeez can proudly say that it holds its own next to other coveted music festivals throughout the world.

Let's get down to business he's the set times and #LAskeez's top 5 must see acts for today:

XXYYXX, Chet Faker, Little Dragon, Interpol, & Grimes. Goodness this is going to be very very awesome.

The Naked and Famous // The Zombies

All the way from New Zealand The Naked and Famous will be performing at The Echo. Everyone ends up at the Echo at least once. Whether it be The Rolling Stones or Lorde, making that Echo Park pit stop is a must these days. The show is sold out but there's always a hand full of tickets left at the box office available. Just get there early and you may be able to get in.

So the #skeezies couldn't get into the Echo tonight, it's okay. To fill your music void, head over to the Santa Monica Pier for the Twilight Concert Series to see The Zombies with the Mystic Braves. The show starts at 7pm and it's FREE!!! Summer is winding down and this is one of the last free concert events so make sure not to miss out and go see these classic English men do their thing.

#LAskeez is tempted to boycott the Dodgers until they get it together and start winning some games! They don't seem to have a problem winning games on the road, maybe all their devoted fans get them nervous and they have lackluster performances at home. Whatever it is, please Dodgers, please get it together. You're suppose to win the World Series! 7:10pm tonight they will hopefully beat the San Diego Padres.

Clippers Celebrate New Owner

Most #skeezies  aren't Clippers fans but they are an LA team so #LAskeez will report the news.
Yesterday the Clippers celebrated inside the Staples Center the arrival of their new owner Steve Ballmer.

If Steve Ballmer runs the Clippers like he did Microsoft, don't expect much. Remember when the thought the idea of an iPhone was absolutely ridiculous?

The Lakers only have celebrations when they win championships. Maybe the Clippers can take a note.

Taco/Ramen/ Pacific Festival // Echo Park Rising

Eating.
We all like to do it.
Some #skeezies may even eat 3 times a day.
Today you are in luck. There's a Taco and Ramen festival going on for all you hungry folks. Not at the same place, although here in LA it's not uncommon to see one restaurant serve menudo and teriyaki chicken--can't even make this stuff up.
Anyway the Taco Festival is going on in Boyle Heights at the Mariachi Plaza. Yumm. Get there at 2pm and take an appetite.

The Ramen Festival is being held in Little Tokyo behind the  Japanese American National Museum in the parking lots. This starts at 11am so if you're a true foodie, this will probably be your  first pitstop before heading to Taco Fest.
Just a heads up all ramen is $8 a bowl.

#Skeezies may have a food coma after two food festivals but what better way to spend the rest of the day than to walk it off at the Pacific Festival or Echo Park Rising. #LAskeez mentioned Echo Park Rising yesterday so let's tell you a little bit about the Pacific Festival first.
It's in Newport.
About $35+ a ticket, the line up is solid AND there will be a guaranteed breathtaking sunset by the beach.

Pacific Festival Set Times

Missed De Lux at Echo Park Rising yesterday? No worries they will be over at the Pacific Fest too!

OK still rising is the Echo Park Rising festival! Day 1 was a blast and Day 2 should be nothing short of great FREE fun.
Walk around and check out local stores/bar/restaurants/venues/bands.
This is the closest thing LA has to South By SouthWest!

The Dodgers screwed up last nights game against the Milwaukee Brewers after leading most of the game, yeah they lost 6-3. Womp womp. Game 2 against the Brewers starts at 6:10pm

Echo Park Rising 2014

There's some good shows going on like Grouplove & Portugal The Man along with Tokyo Police Club all at the Greek Theatre TONIGHT.

#LAskeez always keeps it real for you #skeezies and this weekend you shouldn't have to spend a single penny to participate and watch some good shows.
Here's why...
Echo Park Rising 2014.

All the bands you see on the line-up, you can see for FREE this weekend in Echo Park. All-Ages and in-outs are OK!
This is the fourth year Echo Park teams up with multiple venues/restaurants/bars--throws a few bands in there through out the night and BAM--Echo Park Rising.

If you're a little confused as to where to go here's a list of the venues and bands for today.

Allah-Las and Cherry Glazerr will be inside #LAskeez's favorite french restaurant Taix.

*
AND
De Lux will perform inside the Echoplex!

Don't be a sucker and miss on out on all this FREE action!
The Dodgers are back in town and will be playing the Milwaukee Brewers all weekend so for those non LA residents coming into Echo Park, be mindful of the traffic.

GO DODGERS!

Art Walk // Foxygen // La Santa Cecilia

No one likes lazy #skeezies so go out and be active today. Walk around downtown LA and go look at some art at the Artwalk! It happens every second Thursday of the month so if you miss out on this one, there's always next month.

Typical landscape of the Artwalk

From Astoria, New York--Foxygen will be performing at the Fonda Theatre tonight. They're psychedelic sounding with hints of rock n roll. This may be worth checking out if you're not into walking around and looking at art.

Free on the Santa Monica Pier tonight, La Santa Cecilia will be taking the stage along with Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkestra.
La Santa Cecilia are local LA talent and they're no joke, they even won a Grammy! These days it's not that often you get to see Grammy winners performing for Free.  Enjoy good music with an awesome Santa Monica Pier sunset backdrop. It's what summer is all about. Did #LAskeez mention that you better be ready to dance? Yeah it's going to be that type of fun.

The Dodgers left a lot of guys on base last night as they lost to the Atlanta Braves last night. From the looks of it they are on their way to winning todays game. They lead 5-1 and it's live right now. Get on it!

James Brown // ReignWolf

Two shows are sticking out to #LAskeez tonight.
Let's start with the bigger venue first.
At the Hollywood Bowl the James Brown "Get On Up" celebration is taking place. Special guests from D'Angelo to Aloe Blacc will be giving tribute to James Brown. The show starts at 8pm and tonight will be a perfect evening for a picnic basket, a light blanket, and the willingness to taking in the Bowl scenery while listening to a little James Brown. Get on up and go!

James Brown

For $15 over at the Troubadour, ReignWolf will take the stage to rock out. This guy is from Canada, moved to Seattle and is now in West Hollywood at one of the most intimate venues to date.
Listen to this.

The Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves again 4-2.
If they continue to play as they have the last two games against the Braves, they should have no problem sweeping the series against them tonight at 4:10pm.

RIP Robin Williams // Justin Timberlake // Lykke Li

#Skeezies around the world yesterday found out the unfortunate news of Robin Williams passing. #LAskeez grew up watching many Robin Williams films like Hook, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Dead Poets Society, and What Dreams May Come, to name a few. Known for being the "funny man" he battled depression behind closed doors. He left four completed films which will be released later this year. His memory will live on for generations to come. Thank you Robin Williams for all the laughter you created.

To lighten things up a little, let's talk about tonight's upcoming shows. Over at the Staples Center, Justin Timberlake will be performing with his suit and tie.

Lykke Li will be making a pit stop at the Observatory in Santa Ana before heading into LA tomorrow. #LAskeez prefers her at smaller venues so this is a show you may not want to miss. It's always fun to watch her dance, dance, dance.

Coronado Island/ Imperial Dreams/ Flume

#LASkeez went on a mini vacay over the weekend to Coronado Island which is probably one of the nicest beaches So. Cal has to offer. Sunsets, ocean front views, sand dollars, it was all good.

Coronado Island

#LAskeez made it back to LA for the Sundance Next Fest 2014 to  watch Kendrick Lamar's short film followed by the movie Imperial Dreams, followed by a performance by Tinashe! A triple feature which was held inside the Ace Hotel Downtown LA  theatre all for $25 a ticket. Not a bad deal.

Here's a little something about the movie.

Tinashe performing after Imperial Dreams inside the Ace Theatre

Enough about what already happened. The #skeezies want to know about what's going on today.
Over at the Club Nokia, Flume will be performing. He's a Australian kid who's collaborated with the right folks like Chet Faker. The show sold out quickly but there's always alternative ways to get tickets.

Flume

The Dodgers beat the Milwaukee Brewers  yesterday 5-1. They play the Atlanta Braves today at 4:10pm.
Go Dodgers!

Arctic Monkeys // Jagwar Ma // The Temper Trap

Free shows are always a good way to start.
Over at the Santa Monica Pier tonight at 7:00pm, Jagwar Ma will be performing.

Jagwar Ma

Starting off the night for Jagwar Ma is KCRW's smooth voice operator Mr. Jason Bentley. A Free good music event down at the Pier never seems like a bad option. OH summer we love the Free events you bring.

Jason Bentley

The Roxy is a classic venue to watch anyone and tonight The Temper Trap will seize the stage for the #skeezies enjoyment. A $25 ticket fee may be worth the admission to see a little sweet disposition.

Tonight's big venue event goes to....no not to Rihanna and Eminem at the Rose Bowl (although they are playing)  but to the Arctic Monkeys!!!

#LAskeez wonders if Morrissey is still ify about these guys. Who knows but they will be playing at the Staples Center.

Opening up for them is the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. This song featured at the bottom here was an #LAskeez favorite.

The Freeway Series seems to be favoring the Dodgers!
They beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last night 2-1. Thank you Haren!

Dodger fans will once again take over Angel Stadium today at 7:05pm to show those Angels fans that Dodger fans are the boss.

GO DODGERS!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah // Freeway Series

What the #skeezies are about to read next is a rarity so do not, #LAskeez repeats DO NOT be alarmed.
Today most of the action will be taking place in the...OC.
*
For example over at the Constellation Room in Santa Ana, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah  will be performing!!

Let your inner high-school-indie-music-listener-self relive every track for old times sake. It's been a while since these guys have performed and they have certainly gone through quiet a few members but nevertheless it's the same music.

If you can wait just one more day to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, they will also be performing at the Troubadour! The LA vibe is always better.

THE FREEWAY SERIES!

Last night the Boys in Blue were able to get away with the win against the Angels 5-4. The series is now tied 1-1.

The Dodgers are headed up to Anaheim today and tomorrow to hopefully successfully win both road games. Tune in at 7:05pm

GO DODGERS!!!

KazuNori // Mother

#LAskeez is a big sushi lover, especially when it comes to Sushi Chef Nozawa and his SugarFish Sushi. Well today was the Grand Opening of his KazuNori hand roll bar. It's kinda exclusive with only 22 bar seats and of course #LAskeez had to see what all the fuse was about.

Inside KazuNori. Japan like vibe.
Chef Nozawa was there making sure everything was running smoothly. The rolls and iced green tea were delicious. Unfortunately, for those booze drinking #skeezies, KazuNori does not have their alcohol license just yet but will in the very near future. Overall the experience was yummy, quick, and reasonably priced ($4.75 for a toro roll).  Let's face it no one wants to go cheap when paying for fish and this is probably the closest experience to Japan, Angelinos will get.

1 of 3 Toro hand rolls #LAskeez consumed

After you finish grubbing at KazuNori today, head over to the Bootleg Theatre to check out a band all the way from Brooklyn called Mother. It's that easy.
