Hello Kitty Con 2014 // Marilyn Manson // Queens of the Stone Age

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
and it's FRIDAY!
That for sure means that every where you go it is going to be crowded, full of costumes, and potentially full of a lot of drunkies. So be safe out there #skeezies and take an Uber or a Lyft.

There's some great events going on all over the city but today #LAskeez is going to direct you two one event and two shows.

Okay here it goes; Hello Kitty Con 2014! Go out and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty at the MOCA. Yesterday was a historic FIRST ever Hello Kitty Convention Opening Day and #LAskeez to Katie Perry were up in the mix. They have everything from a Hello Kitty Spam Musubi Kit to a $450 limited edition Hello Kitty brush set. They have it all. If you decide to go into "the store" make sure you line up immediately. Yesterday they cut off the line around 4:30pm due to the capacity. The Convention ends on Nov 2nd so make sure you do whatever it is you have to do to get a ticket!

The only appropriate Halloween show of the evening goes to Marilyn Manson. He's performing at the Roxy for $49.50! If you've never been to the Roxy, it's tiny and it's exactly where you would want to see Marilyn Manson on Halloween! After the show you can head over to WEHO and check out all the amazing costumes.

Honorable Mention:
Queens of the Stone Age. They don't have the same Halloween feel as Marilyn Manson does but it's close enough. They will be playing at the Forum tonight and you can find tickets anywhere between the price range of $30-70. Plus, The Kills will be opening up for them! How awesome is that?

Marilyn Manson // Delta Spirit // Nick Jonas

Hello #skeezies! There were slim pickings yesterday but tonight #LAskeez has a little something for everyone's musical pallet.

Just in time for Halloween. Marilyn Manson himself will be performing tonight at the Observatory in Santa Ana for $55 a ticket. Ticket prices are a little steep but it's Marilyn Mason, so he can demand those type of ticket prices. For all you beautiful industrial heavy metal people out there this is where you want to be.

If you're not hardcore enough to attend a Marilyn Manson show, then maybe you should head over to the Troubadour to see the indie band Delta Spirit for $20. The show is mostly likely sold out since they seem to be a favorite around here which is probably due to them being semi-locals (SD, OC, LB).  The Troubadour is an awesome venue so anything going on in there is a treat.

From Marilyn Manson, Delta Spirit to now Nick Jonas. Those are probably names you typically wouldn't see in the same sentence but #LAskeez is just testing the limits here. Big pop stars/ teenage heartthrobs are always fun to see at small intimate venues. With todays case, Nick Jonas will be at the Satellite over here in Silverlake. The price of admission is $29.50 and why not head down if you're into that type of stuff.

Little Dragon // Tycho // Crystal Skulls

Good day, #LAskeez here ready to give you our top recommendations for the week but for starters let's start with what's going on today. LA always has something going on and #LAskeez is always willing to point you #skeezies in the right direction. Everyone wants a piece of the pie which is why when bands come into town for shows in LA they make a few pitstops on the outskirts. Today two of the three shows going on tonight are on the outskirts but you can decide if it's worth the drive.

First up and an #LAskeez favorite, Little Dragon. They will be performing tonight at the Observatory in Santa Ana. #skeezies, this show should run you $35 a ticket. Little Dragon always puts on an amazing show so don't let the drive or price tag deter you. Besides they're coming all the way from Sweden to put on this show!

Next up: Tycho. If you haven't seen him, you should. This native Californian, can relax you at his shows with his music and simple visuals. This show is happening over in Pomona at the Glass House. The venue is an intimate one for sure, so anywhere you stand you will be alright. For those old school Glass House attendees that haven't been in a while, they've been selling alcohol now, so booze up. $25 is the admission for this show.

Okay now back to the actual LA shows. Why drive anywhere and pay when you can just stay local, head over to the Echo and watch the Crystal Skulls for FREE?! Yeah, that option always seems like the best in #LAskeez's opinion. All these other acts are likely to come into town town eventually.

The choice is yours and that's the #skeez.

Broken Bells // Big Freedia // We Can Survive

#LAskeez doesn't need to tell you that it's Friday! #skeezies  are ready to unwind and let loose for the weekend.

There's no shortage of shows tonight so here are today's top 3 recommendations:

The indie band Broken Bells will be playing tonight at the Orpheum Theatre. Tickets range anywhere between $35-45. It's always fun to see two people from different bands come together and form their own. If you recognize the vocals you would know that it's actually James Mercer from the Shins and Danger Mouse!

If #LAskeez had to pick between tonight's shows, we would hands down pick Big Freedia. He's from New Orleans and has worked with the likes of Ru Paul, enough said. Big Freeda can bring out the bounce in anyone. His shows are HIGH energy so be ready for the dance party. You don't even know. Yes, gawd.

Typically #LAskeez doesn't mention mainstream events but tonight's event at the Hollywood Bowl has a lot of heavy hitters and it's for a cause. $2 of the ticket sales for the "We Can Survive" event will be donated to the foundations Living Beyond Breast Cancer and the Young Survival Coalition. Some of the acts consist of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell, and Sia. Ticket for this show range from $49-250.

Happy Friday!

Kimbra // Jessie Ware // Movement

#LAskeez is here ready to give the #skeezies our top show recommendations of the day.
There's three stand out shows along with one bonus so let's get to it.

Kimbra is an Australian native and frequent Bootleg Theatre "Space Jam" show stopper.
Tonight she's playing a sold out show at the Roxy. Tickets were $20 and they're all gone.

Jessie Ware and her soulful voice will be performing at the Tower Theatre. Tickets are $40 and were hard to come by. Her camp had set up a lotto system for her fans to purchase tickets. Every venue she plays seems to get bigger and bigger every time.

Movement is finally headlining their own show tonight at the Satellite. Tickets are $12-14. After two nights of opening up for Banks at the Wiltern these guys are definitely going to be all warmed up for tonights show.

::BONUS::

TV on The Radio will be performing again tonight at the Mayan. The tickets are $35.50 each and there's still some tickets available.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

TV On The Radio // Billy Idol // Nas // Belanova

There's too many good shows going on tonight! #LAskeez typically tries to narrow our recommendations down to two-three shows but today #LAskeez is going to tell you about four!
How you #skeezies are ready for it because here it goes---

FREE shows are always a fan favorite so let's start with that. Remember Billy Idol? Remember? How can we forget this 80s gem?! Well Billy Idol is still very capable of doing a few rebel yells and tonight he's going to perform for FREE over at Amoeba Records in Hollywood. You know the drill. Show up around 1-2pm and the performance will start around 6. Playing the waiting game is part of the FREE show nature but come one let's be honest, who doesn't want to see Billy Effen Idol!?!?

The rest of tonight's shows are kind of on the pricy side so let's continue on in the ascending price order.

What can $32 get you? A ticket to see Belanova at the Sunset House of Blues. The Mexican Trio has been around for almost 15 years now so let's just say they have the performance thing down. Whether you understand Spanish or not, their catchy pop songs and energy will get you dancing and potentially get you to want to start on Rosetta Stone.

TV On The Radio. Originally from Brooklyn, these guys will be playing at the Fonda Theatre tonight for $35.50 If you're a fan of their Indie Rock sounds and you can't make it out to see them tonight, don't worry. They will be playing again at the Mayan Theatre on Thursday for the same price and then out in Pioneer Town on Friday for $5 cheaper. Granted you do need to drive out to the desert and the money you spend on gas might not be worth the $5 cheaper ticket but it's your call.  It's always kind of fun to take a drive out somewhere during.

Last show #LAskeez  recommends for the day is... NAS. From $40-75 a ticket you can be in attendance over at the Orpheum Theatre to see him in action. He doesn't perform often so tonight is your only shot at seeing him. His next show is next month at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.

::BONUS ALERT::

Don't forget BANKS and Movement will be playing their second night at the Wiltern tonight! Last night's show was impressive and tonight should be just the same if not more. Sources tell us Movement was a better live. Maybe Banks should of considered opening up for them.

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

BANKS // Metronomy // Wildcat Wildcat

#LAskeez here ready to give you #skeezies today's top show recommendations.
We will start with #LAskeez's artist favorites which is Banks.

Banks is an Orange County girl who has caught the attention of many.
She is playing two shows at the Wiltern, the first show starting tonight! The Australian band Movement will be opening up for them both nights so for $27 this show is definitely a treat! If you can't make the show tonight definitely make it a point to make it out tomorrow!

The English band Metronomy, is also playing tonight at the Belasco Theatre. #LAskeez  was curious as to how the Belasco and the Mayan have been coming up on all these shows and it finally made sense. The newly renovated Regency Theatre isn't fully ready to host shows just yet which is why all these shows have been funneling over to the Belasco/Mayan Theatre (same owner, same bad venue). Nevertheless Metronomy is a good enough band that the #skeezies need to check out. What will this show cost you? $23 big ones.

WILDCAT WILDCAT! yeah these local boys are playing at the El Rey Theatre tonight for $20 a pop. Happy Tuesday! You have always have options.

Spoon // Alt-J

Good morning #skeezies
Hopefully everyone had an amazing weekend.
Another week always means more shows. #LAskeez is ready to start the week by pin pointing two good shows tonight.

Spoon. They played at the Moon Block Party festival in Pomona this past Saturday and they played last night at Los Globos in Silverlake. TONIGHT they will be making a stop at the LA Live inside the intimate Grammy Museum! Tickets for this event were only $20 which is a steal for how exclusive it is. If you missed them all weekend, this is their last stop before they head out to                                          Europe. They will be back in the States sometime in December so keep an eye out for them again.

Alt-J. No, #LAskeez isn't trying to tell you to press any buttons on your keyboard. We're trying to tell you the English band Alt-J is going to be playing at the lovely Greek theatre tonight. In case you're wondering if you were to press ALT + J at the same time, it would make a triangle like this... ∆. Technology, crazy ain't it? Oh but back to the show, it will run you anywhere between $35-50, so if you have the $$$ go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Moon Black Party // Lana Del Rey // Culture Collide

Hey there #skeezies, hope you're ready for some weekend fun      because there's a lot of it today.
Some events are repeating themselves today but in addition to that we have another festival to look forward to.

Over at the Pomona Fairplex, Moon Black Party will be taking place. What is it exactly? Well glad you asked because #LAskeez can tell you all about it. Basically, there's going to be three stages, food, the works. The bands on the billet are kinda awesome--example: Spoon, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Band of Skulls to name a few. The admission of $45 gives you access to 10 hrs of fun. the event is from Noon to 10pm.

Lana Del Rey blew away the crowd last night. Some people cried while some sang along as others cried and attempted sing along at the same time. The masses love Lana which is why she's playing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery again for her second night here in LA. This is your last chance to scrabble around and find some tickets, maybe even try to sneak in.

Sadly, the 5th annual Culture Collide ends today. So in case you're still wondering what it's all about the opportunity is yours for the taking. If you're a little unsure as to where in Echo Park the event is taking place, just follow the giant balloon(s).

Lana Del Rey // The New Pornographers // Culture Collide

Alas it's Friday!
#LAskeez is here to give you today's top show recommendations in and around LA.
Hope you #skeezies are ready because there's no shortage of shows.

The hottest ticket tonight is Lana Del Rey. She's playing at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery tonight AND tomorrow. Both shows sold out literally within two minutes. Tickets sold at $65 and they're reselling for double to triple the original price so consider yourself lucky if you came up on a ticket. There's nothing more appropriate than watching a show at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery during October. It's spooky yet fun.

The New Pornographers have finally made their way down to LA. They're going to be over at Wiltern and tickets are in the $25-35 range. They've already performed once today on KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic so you can always go online and check out their live set.

$65 for Lana Del Rey, $25-35 for New Pornographers, or $30 for a wristband to Culture Collide which gives you access to see bands from all over the world! #LAskeez is no economist but something tells us that Culture Collide is the better deal of the evening. The event started yesterday, so the wristband would include access for tonight's activities along with tomorrow's fun.
Look out for the giant Culture Collides balloons in Echo Park, that's where you #skeezies want to be.

Massive Attack // Of Montreal // Culture Collide

It's Thursday #skeezies! The weekend is almost here and #LAskeez can't wait.
There's two shows and Culture Collide that #LAskeez needs to tell you about so let's getting right into it.

Massive Attack. Everyone seems to love this British band from the late 80s and it's probably for a good reason. They're playing at the Greek Theatre tonight, which is absolutely perfect for this Fall like weather. Bundle up and take a little blanket since it gets chilly.

Of Montreal is playing at the Mayan theatre. Idk what's going on but the Mayan and the Belasco Theatre seem to be snatching up a good amount of shows. Anyway you can enjoy Of Montreal for $20. Don't let their name fool you, they're from Georgia.

******************************************************
Okay now that we got the little shows out of the way it's time to introduce the Festival of the week/end. It's the 5th Culture Collide here in LA and it starts today and ends on the 18th.

Bottom line it's supposed to feature international artists/bands from all over the world hence the name Culture Collide. Aside from music there's also going to be a variety of foods and art. Where is this taking place? No other place than Echo Park. For $30 you get snatch up a wristband and partake.
Here's a few music videos from bands that #LAskeez recommends checking out.

Seems like a busy Thursday with a ton of options if #LAskeez has ever heard of one.

SBTRKT // The New Pornographers // The Horrors

Another day means more shows that #LAskeez needs to tell the #skeezies about!

Ever heard of SBTRKT? Well if you're a little curious as to how to you would even go about saying that, just say "sub-tract" and there you have it--you now know how to pronounce SBTRKT. Anyway this SBTRKT fellow's real name is Aaron Jerome and he's kinda awesome. He's from the UK and has remixed songs of Radiohead...need #LAskeez say anymore? Tonight at the Belasco Theatre in Downtown LA you can catch him there for $37.

************

Literally right next door to the Belasco Theatre the Horrors who #LAskeez mentioned yesterday will be making their official LA performance at the Mayan Theatre.

*****

Up for a drive? Like to the desert?

You're in luck because the New Pornographers are going to be playing at Pappy & Harriet's which is in Pioneer Town tonight for $30. In case you're wondering where Pioneer Town is, it's past the Morongo Casino and right near Joshua Tree. This would be the perfect impromptu adventure. If you're not up for the drive, it's okay, they will be in LA on Friday at the Wiltern.

Jessie J // The Horros // The Drums

Hey there #skeezies!!
#LAskeez always seems to go on a brief hiatus during 3 day weekends.
We're back so let's get back to the music shows going on tonight.
FREE shows are always a fan favorite so let's tackle that first.

The Drums will be playing a FREE show at Amoeba Records in Hollywood.
You know the drill. Get there early. People come out in numbers for free shows so #LAskeez would advise getting there around 2pm-ish. Make sure you download some new apps to keep you busy since they won't perform until 6pm.

******************************************************

For $22.50 over at the Observatory in Santa Ana--The Horrors will be taking over. Yep, it's a British invasion in this venue tonight. "So now you know". If you can't catch them tonight, they will be playing here in LA tomorrow at the Mayan Theatre. Oh and that show is going to cost you an extra $7.

*********************************************************************************

Another British act will be performing tonight and she goes by the name of Jessie J. Some may even consider her the UKs version of Katy Perry but the point is...for $30 (which is a little too pricy for the El Rey standards) you can see her sing all her hit songs in a very small venue, which in that case may be worth the $30. Happy Tuesday and keep it #skeezy.
