Sam Smith @ The Greek

#LAskeez including all #skeezies are back at it--yes, it's Monday and that means four more days until another deserving weekend. Last night at the Hollywood Bowl the Pixies and Cat Power put on one heck of a show. Gogo whatever (Gogol Bordello) was also in the line up but to be quite honest is kinda boring and not fitting next to the other two bands.  For the fun of it let's watch a quick Pixies music video before we get into today's evening top pick show.

                                             Sam Smith.

#LAskeez was fortunate to see Sam Smith at the Troubadour December of 2013. It was the exact same day he was signed to Capital Records and he was ecstatic to show his talents to the world. His music set was extremely short do to his lack of songs but nothing short of amazing. Definitely the best $15 spent during the holiday season.
Not even a whole year later and Sam Smith is performing two sold out nights at the Greek Theatre. A single ticket is reselling up to $200! If you were one of the lucky #skeezies to score some tickets, you are in for a treat--especially if this is the first time seeing him.
|
#LAskeez was drawn to Sam Smith after the first 2 seconds of hearing this song.

OH and the Dodgers beat the +Colorado Rockies 5-10 yesterday.
The Boys in Blue were having fun as Juan Uribe switched his jersey to Don Mattingly's #8 and then into a Tommy Lasorda #2.
When you're winning it sure is easy to have fun.
First game of the playoffs is this Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Thievery Corporation // Die Antwoord

Nothing like waking up late on a weekend.
There's two shows #LAskeez needs to inform the #skeezies about.

First up, the Thievery Corporation.

It's not every day you get a decent band from Washington D.C. so why not check out this one today at the beautiful Greek theatre. Definitely take a small blanket tonight, it gets chilly up there during the late night hours.
*
*
Next up, Die Antwoord.
#LAskeez has been talking about these guys for the last two days but that's because they've been nonstop playing all over the place. The only difference is that they have FINALLY made it out to LA and will be playing at the Hollywood Palladium.

Now some quick Dodgers talk.

Surprise, surprise, they beat the Colorado Rockies last night 4-7.
They play again at the Chavez Ravine at 6:10pm. So make sure to tune in.

Way Over Yonder

Dust off those Daisy Dukes #skeezies, it's FRIDAY!
The Way Over Yonder two-day festival starts today over at the Santa Monica Pier.

It's the last "summer" festival of the season, so head out with the whole family to enjoy some good music and beautiful sunsets.

Jackson Browne willing be performing his classics.

One of #LAskeez's favorites known as the Local Natives will be sending warning signs of good music.

If you're not into festivals you can always catch Die Antwoord for their second show at the Observatory.

The Dodgers play their first post season game tonight at 7:10pm against the Colorado Rockies. All the Dodgers need to do is continue playing well like they have been and they should easily put this game away with a "W".

Simian Mobile Disco // The Kooks // Die Antwoord

Calling all #skeezies! Are you still with #LAskeez!? We've been slacking over here but we're back at it in full force. There's still time to make plans and watch a show.
Simian Mobile Disco is going to be bringing the dancing to the El Rey tonight. For $22 bucks you can dance your little hearts out.

Okay everyone loves options so here's another one for y'all
Over at the Wiltern those British boy's known as the Kooks will be rocking out.

Not feeling either shows I just mentioned? Well I have one more for you and this one will require a little drive over to the Santa Ana Observatory. All the way from South Africa, Die Antwoord will be getting weird and entertaining the crowd.

Don't say #LAskeez never helped you out on a Thursday.
We can not end this blog without mentioning the 2014 National League West Champions aka the Dodgers!
If you doubted Kershaw for a second, he sure made it crystal clear to everyone that he is indeed the MVP. Not only was his pitching on point, but his first career triple was kinda amazing.
Congrats to the 2014 National League Champions!
This is one of three celebrations that are to soon to come.

Neutral Milk Hotel / Daniel Johnston / KAREN O

Finally the weather has cooled down...momentarily that is.
Take advantage of it! There's two amazing shows happening today.
Over at the Hollywood Bowl Neutral Milk Hotel, The Breeders, and DANIEL JOHNSTON will be performing. #LAskeez had to capitalize Daniel Johnston's name since he's kind of a pioneer of what a singer/songwriter is all about. NMH and the Breeders should be opening up for this guy. He rarely performs so this should be a very awesome show to witness.

#LAskeez can't be everywhere at once, but you can find #LAskeez checking out some of Karen O's crush songs tonight at the Hollywood Forever!

Diana Ross // De Lux

Before the day is almost out there's still time for #LAskeez  to notify the #skeezies of tonights show.
A legend must always be mentioned first. So with that being said, tonight Diana Ross will be performing at the Terrace Theater which is located at the Long Beach Convention Center. The show starts at 8pm.

Alright so if you haven't heard already...Redbull Sound Select is hosting 30 days in LA. Tonight they will be featuring De Lux at the Sayers Club! You need to RSVP and tickets for the Redbull Sound Select shows are almost all completely sold out. If you were lucky to have scored some tickets, enjoy the show!

Karen O // Rise Against

It's not even 9am and #LAskeez along with #skeezies across LA are melting. 81 degrees and climbing. Yuck, can Fall please come and kick away this Summer like weather already?!
However, a heat wave doesn't stop shows so let's get to it.

At Amoeba records in Hollywood, Karen O will be performing for FREE! That's right, #LAskeez would typically recommend lining up now for the performance right this second but this may result in a heat stroke. Bottom line, Karen O. Enough said. Have a date with the night.

If you can't make in it to see Karen O and want to pay for a show like a sucker, head over at the Wiltern, Rise Against will be getting loud. #skeezies can probably still score some decently priced tickets if you act immediately.

The Dodgers blew past the Colorado Rockies last night.
If the Dodgers aren't tired of winning they should be able to beat the Rockies (again) today at 5:40pm.

Weekend Recap //Linkin Park //Thirty Seconds to Mars // AFI

What an awesome weekend!
#LAskeez went to the Banks cd Release Listening Party, The Dodgers beat the Giants 17-0. And yesterday the weekend ended with the Simpsons Take Over at The Bowl. The show was very interactive from the moment folks arrived to the very end. The cartoons were all original material specific for the Bowl. It was great! Hope the #skeezies have been able to keep cool, we're experiencing one heck of a heat wave. Check out some of the footage/pics of this weekend.

BANKS // Diplo Mad Decent Block Party

For those of you who are familiar with the amazing sultry vocals of the lovely Banks, it is likely not necessary for me to tell you to check out her newly released album Goddess. For those of you that aren’t familiar, get on this and do it quick!

Tonight #LASkeez is fortunate enough to be one of the lucky few to have an opportunity to see Banks do her thing at the ultra cool and exclusive Sonos Studios. If you can’t manage to attend, do not fret or worry my #skeezies – I’ll be sure to share some photos and tell you all about the experience tomorrow.

Other neat happenings tonight include the 76th Annual Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. This is a great event to enjoy an assortment of yummy food trucks, art, music, and a beer garden serving up the best of LA’s own Eagle Rock and Angel City Breweries.

Last but not least, if you want to let lose and fist-pump – go rage with Diplo at Mad Decent. The line-up includes: Diplo himself, Elliphant, Laidback Luke, Liz, STRFKR, Thurz, and TJR.

Alright #skeezies happy Saturday and Carpe Diem!

Simpsons Take The Bowl

In case you #skeezies didn't know...it's FRIDAY!
Yup and after binge watching the Simpsons 12 day every single episode marathon, it only seems appropriate to head over to the Hollywood Bowl for the 3 day Simpson take over!

Each night ends with a firework finale!
The creator Matt Groening will be there along with Conan O'Brien.
Make it a point as #LAskeez will, to head over sometime during the weekend to witness the Simpson take over. It's about time Lisa get's to play her sax in the famous Bowl venue!

Let's not forget about our Boys in Blue (Dodgers) are taking on the lame San Francisco Giants at 7:15pm!

Money // Paul Oakenfold

Hey there #skeezies!
Todays is lacking of some shows that get #LAskeez excited about.
Never fear, all the good stuff is coming in the very near future.
Our recommended default concerts for today are:

-The Hollywood Bowl- (not a bad default) to hear the L.A. Philharmonic. If the evening is anything like what's currently going on outside, it should be a pleasant.

Maybe checking out a new band is your thing today. So head over to the Echo to see Money, they're a couple of guys from the UK.

OKay so you don't want to go to the Bowl because you hate stack parking and you don't feel like going to the Echo to check out a new band...you must want to dance. So this is why you are going straight to "Create NightClub" to see Paul Oakenfold. No one is judging you, go dance!

The Dodgers may be perfecting the art of destroying teams.

Kershaw is on his 18th win and looking better than ever. Being this good shouldn't be legal. Sorry San Diego Padres but you didn't stand a chance last night.

They're playing again tonight at 7:10pm.
Don't let up Dodgers, keep that fire going!

Atmosphere @ The Observatory

Good Morning #skeezies!
This California drought has everyone forgetting what rain looks like. Fortunately, we had a little preview of rain earlier this morning. After yesterday's extremely warm weather, this overcast is very nice.
*
*
As for as concerts go today, it's like our water supply...dry.
Not much going on today.
Which would make it a bad case of the Mondays.
Atmosphere is playing at the Observatory in Santa Ana but that's about it.

How about them Dodgers !?
#LAskeez watched the Dodgers, destroyed the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-7!
Gonzalez and Kemp both had tremendous games.
Let's hope they do the same to the San Diego Padres tonight at 7:10pm.

RIP Joan Rivers/ Phantogram/ Tom Morello

Yesterday we lost another Hollywood Icon.
Joan Rivers died at 81, during a plastic surgery procedure. She always looked good and wanted to continue looking good. She spoke her mind and always said what everyone was thinking anyway. RIP Joan Rivers and thank you for keeping it real.

Continuing on with the showbiz as Joan Rivers would say--It's Friday! Now that the work week has ended it's time for leisure and going out. Tonight at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Phantogram will be performing.

Phantogram is cool and everything but if #LAskeez had to pick a show, it would be to see Tom Morello at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. When he gets behind that guitar there's no telling what kind of effects will be coming out of it. The nightwatchman always takes everyone by surprise.

Hipster-Meca/ Allah-Las/ Ok-Go / City & Colour / Neon Trees

#Skeezies are you still out there?!
#LAskeez dipped out and over the holiday weekend and took off to the hipster-meca (Portland, Oregon). After meeting a few people the word on Portland is the liquor licenses are dirt cheap BUT you need to serve food as well which is why there's soooo many eateries to choose from. There's a ton of local organic produce that floods the restaurants. Basically, to get a bad meal you really need to go out of your way and search for it. Aside from #LAskeez's stomach expanding, we checked out Multnomah Falls, Cannon Beach, and Powells Book Store (Amoeba of Books). Check out these awesome photos before proceeding to LA stuff.

Cannon Beach
Powells City Of Books
Very Top of Multnomah Falls

Now for the LA business!
Head over to the Santa Monica Pier to see the Allah-Las and Ok-Go for FREE!

The evenings are getting slightly cooler which would make heading down to the Greek Theatre a nice evening date to see City and Colour. Unfortunately this isn't a free event and will run you about $40-70 big ones.

A quick drive to Pomona and you can see Phantogram at the Fox Theatre for $30.

Or the Pomona Fairplex to see NeonTrees

So little time so many shows. Pick the one that's right for you and enjoy.
