Tune-Yards // The Ataris // FMLYBND

Good morning #skeezies since our last post the city began to burn. Well one building did and in case you were worried #LAskeez is safe. In LA nothing is a coincidence which is why this incident is being investigated as a criminal arson case. Results soon to come.

What's going on? Where the shows? What's good? #LAskeez has you covered. For starters, Tune Yards will be performing tonight at the Wiltern. $27.50 is the price of admission and there are still tickets available. Come to think of it there's always tickets available, it just depends on how deep your pockets are willing stretch. Anyway the woman behind Tune Yards is a New England native and her band mate is from Oakland where she now lives as well. Who doesn't want to ghost ride the whip? Doors are at 7pm,  show starts at 8pm.

The Ataris. Remember them? You might remember them as the emo band from way back when. Turns out they're still around and playing shows. Tonight they will stopping by the El Rey. This show is about $17 and if you want to reminisce on your high school days and heart breaks this is your show. There's two opening bands and this show starts at 8pm.

Top #LAskeez recommendation (with honors) of the day goes to...

The Echo, the venue always knows who to let on their stage. Tonight a band from Isla Vista (Santa Barbara) known as FMLYBND will be taking over the Echo. They consider themselves "electronic grunge" which seems about right. The show is only $12 and it includes an opening band. So essentially that's $6 per band. Not a bad deal. Show is at 8:30pm.

Foo Fighters // Foster the People // RAC // Death from Above 1979 // Slayer

Hope the #skeezies  are ready because the evening is full of shows.
#LAskeez will be highlighting not one, not two, but FIVE shows!

The show that has everyone talking is the Foo Fighter show. Big deal they play all the time right? NO! This show is on a league of it's own. Why? Well they're going to be jamming out at the Roxy. Imagine that, the Foo Fighters at the Roxy. This was a "secret" show they decided to put together and the only ways in are to know someone or win through an Amoeba or AXS contest. You better believe that Dave Grohl is going to have a lot of fun with this.

Alright Foster the People. Known for their Pumped Up Kicks and former month long resident holders to our beloved The Echo venue a few years back--they have long graduated from the Echo Park scene and are now charging  $51-67 per ticket to see them perform at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall. Doors are at 7pm and there's two opening acts so expect them late into the evening. Tickets are still available via ticket master.

One of #LAskeez's all time favorite bands goes to Death From Above 1979. They will be performing tonight for the Red Bull Sound Select '30 days in LA'. Tonight marks the 14th night and DFA1979 will be giving the new Regent Theatre a true 'breaking in'. Like all other Red Bull events these tickets were only $15. These two Canadian guys really know how to fill a room with a ton of sound so take some earplugs if you want to preserve some of your hearing. Trust us, you will still be able to hear plenty with the earplugs on.

If you can handle DFA1979 and want a little more SLAYER can definitely fill that void. These metal guys from Huntington Park will be shredding the Forum. These tickets are pricey...starting at $70-300. Those prices are hardcore.

Lastly, For $34 (Tickets still available via AXS) you can head over to the Fonda and check out RAC. Don't be shocked if there are a few surprised guests that join him on stage. Maybe Tegan and Sara, Kele, Tokyo Police Club...who knows. He is a remix artist collective which should translate on the stage.

Fools Gold // Rhye // The Downtown Festival

Oh man so many options tonight. #LAskeez has access to all three shows tonight so we will see if we can pull off seeing everyone that we're about to tell you #skeezies about.

First up, Fools Gold. They're a band that really knows how to fuse different sounds together and make it work. The show will be held at the Echo for $10! That's a steal. The video that's off to the side is a remix of their song "I'm in love".

Rhye will be bringing his soulful voice over to the Cathedral Sanctuary at the Immanuel Presbyterian tonight. Face value was going for $60 and there's still some tickets under value on Stubhub so if you're in the mood for some soothing music, this is your show. This is a venue #LAskeez has yet to attend, so we are more than excited to check it out tonight. Doors open at 7pm.

It isn't a weekend unless there's a festival and tonight The Downtown Festival begins. It's at the NEW Regent Theater. Here's tonight's line up:
7:30-8:30 Dj Travis Holocomb 8:30-9:00 Sage Caswell
 9:20-9:50 Beginners
          10:10-10:50 Jerome LOL
11:15-?? YACHT

So much to see. So little time!

Little Dragon // Tycho // Crystal Skulls

Good day, #LAskeez here ready to give you our top recommendations for the week but for starters let's start with what's going on today. LA always has something going on and #LAskeez is always willing to point you #skeezies in the right direction. Everyone wants a piece of the pie which is why when bands come into town for shows in LA they make a few pitstops on the outskirts. Today two of the three shows going on tonight are on the outskirts but you can decide if it's worth the drive.

First up and an #LAskeez favorite, Little Dragon. They will be performing tonight at the Observatory in Santa Ana. #skeezies, this show should run you $35 a ticket. Little Dragon always puts on an amazing show so don't let the drive or price tag deter you. Besides they're coming all the way from Sweden to put on this show!

Next up: Tycho. If you haven't seen him, you should. This native Californian, can relax you at his shows with his music and simple visuals. This show is happening over in Pomona at the Glass House. The venue is an intimate one for sure, so anywhere you stand you will be alright. For those old school Glass House attendees that haven't been in a while, they've been selling alcohol now, so booze up. $25 is the admission for this show.

Okay now back to the actual LA shows. Why drive anywhere and pay when you can just stay local, head over to the Echo and watch the Crystal Skulls for FREE?! Yeah, that option always seems like the best in #LAskeez's opinion. All these other acts are likely to come into town town eventually.

The choice is yours and that's the #skeez.

Money // Paul Oakenfold

Hey there #skeezies!
Todays is lacking of some shows that get #LAskeez excited about.
Never fear, all the good stuff is coming in the very near future.
Our recommended default concerts for today are:

-The Hollywood Bowl- (not a bad default) to hear the L.A. Philharmonic. If the evening is anything like what's currently going on outside, it should be a pleasant.

Maybe checking out a new band is your thing today. So head over to the Echo to see Money, they're a couple of guys from the UK.

OKay so you don't want to go to the Bowl because you hate stack parking and you don't feel like going to the Echo to check out a new band...you must want to dance. So this is why you are going straight to "Create NightClub" to see Paul Oakenfold. No one is judging you, go dance!

The Dodgers may be perfecting the art of destroying teams.

Kershaw is on his 18th win and looking better than ever. Being this good shouldn't be legal. Sorry San Diego Padres but you didn't stand a chance last night.

They're playing again tonight at 7:10pm.
Don't let up Dodgers, keep that fire going!

Ty Segall // Jack Johnson

#LAskeez here reporting to all #skeezies.
It's Thursday and the 3 day holiday weekend is a day away.
Have some pre-weekend fun and head down to the Echo.
Ty Segall is going to be performing.

Tickets are $12.
He's an OC boy with a little know how on the drums, guitar, and mic. Why not check this guy out that's all the rage?

Or you can always go check out Jack Johnson at The Greek Theatre  if that's your thing.

The Naked and Famous // The Zombies

All the way from New Zealand The Naked and Famous will be performing at The Echo. Everyone ends up at the Echo at least once. Whether it be The Rolling Stones or Lorde, making that Echo Park pit stop is a must these days. The show is sold out but there's always a hand full of tickets left at the box office available. Just get there early and you may be able to get in.

So the #skeezies couldn't get into the Echo tonight, it's okay. To fill your music void, head over to the Santa Monica Pier for the Twilight Concert Series to see The Zombies with the Mystic Braves. The show starts at 7pm and it's FREE!!! Summer is winding down and this is one of the last free concert events so make sure not to miss out and go see these classic English men do their thing.

#LAskeez is tempted to boycott the Dodgers until they get it together and start winning some games! They don't seem to have a problem winning games on the road, maybe all their devoted fans get them nervous and they have lackluster performances at home. Whatever it is, please Dodgers, please get it together. You're suppose to win the World Series! 7:10pm tonight they will hopefully beat the San Diego Padres.

Plenty of Shows and Child of God by James Franco

There's no reason for any #skeezies to stay home today.
The weekend is here and it is in full force.

Arcade Fire
Arcade Fire will be at The Forum tonight, opening up for them will be Dan Deacon and the Unicorns. Solid opening acts. This should be a good one!

If you're not into the whole big arena concert vibe like #LAskeez, it's all good. The Orpheum Theatre in DTLA is beautiful and imitate enough. Echo and the Bunnymen have finally made their way into LA and will be playing there tonight!

Be ready for some sugar kisses!

Still not small enough of a venue for you? Geesh tough crowd but luckily for the #skeezies Miniature Tigers will be playing at the Echo. It's budget friendly $12-15 a ticket and appropriate music for the venue.

So you're really on a budget and the $12-15 ticket is out of the question. You need Free.  Get your butts to the LA Natural History Museum for a night in the garden. Music, food trucks, drinks and good company my be right up your alley. Check out their website to RSVP and you're in.

So many things to do, so little time. What is #LAskeez going to do? #LAskeez is headed to the ArcLight Cinemas to watch the movie Child of God.

The movie was written and directed by James Franco  OH and let's not forget he stars in it. After the showing James Franco himself will be participating in a Q&A. People tend to share everything about themselves before they ask questions which always leads to interesting and sometimes very uncomfortable and awkward Q&A's.

Happy Friday!

Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas

According to #LAskeez, there's not a whole lot of shows going on tonight but tomorrow evening at The Echo,  Jessica Hernandez and The Deltas will be performing.

They're from Detroit and they certainly have their own thing going on. Give them a listen and who knows, it might be the best ten bucks you have ever spent for a show.

The Dodgers easily swept the San Diego Padres yesterday and now take a break for the All-Star game. Yasiel Puig will be representing the boys in blue during the Home Run Derby tonight at 5pm.

Fourth of July/ Young & Sick Recap

What a weekend! #LAskeez hopes all #skeezies had a wonderful Fourth of July Weekend! There were a ton of great firework shows. From the Hollywood Bowl, Dodger Stadium, Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles, to people that got a hold of some illegal fireworks, everyone was celebrating and being very patriotic. #LAskeez had the opportunity to have a great view of the entire city and it really was quite a sight to see.

American Flag Sugar Cookies

Better late than never but it's time to give #LAskeez's review on the Young & Sick show which was last Wednesday night. Nick might be considered an attractive frontman by most, however his "sexiness" seemed to be a little too forced or maybe too 1990's cliche "hunk." Although "hunk" is not a word #LAskeez would typically use, it does seem fitting to describe this frontman. His tortured artist attitude and perfectly tousled hair left me scratching my head a little. I wasn't sure whether to swoon or to laugh a little.

Young & Sick @ the Echo

Sadly Team USA couldn't move passed Belgium during yesterdays soccer match but they played with great intensity and heart. The odds had certainly been against them from their first match but yet they managed to get as far as they did. Good job Team USA, America recognizes your hard work and effort.

Enough with the boohoo we didn't win nonsense let's talk about a great show that is going on tonight at the Echo! Young & Sick will be performing and it should be a great one. #LAskeez will be in attendance checking them out for the first time since Coachella.
Allow me to reintroduce Young & Sick...

They are LA based and they're all about the arts and music. So naturally we should expect the merch and visuals to be stimulating.
And if you want to say you really know about the band you can tell other #skeezies about the art work designs they have done for Maroon 5, Foster the People, and even Robin Thicke.

See you there #skeezies !

Night 2--Kelela @ The Echo

There must be something special about Wednesday night crowds or maybe it's the fact that Wednesday is one day closer to the weekend--whatever it was last night, the vibe at The Echo was nothing but ENERGY.
We're talking so much energy that Kelela almost broke down into tears of joy and gratitude! (She repeatedly expressed how greatful she was for everyone in attendance and that she was glad she performing in a venue full of fans as opposed to just 10 or 20 folks)

Here's what I think happened: On her first night the audience was shell-shocked and couldn't comprehend how AMAZING of a performer she is. After all, anyone can sound good in a recording but "bringing it" live is a whole other story. And let me tell you--Kelela brought it! After her first performance at The Echo, the buzz quickly spread throughout LA like wildfire. When last night's show started the fans knew exactly what to expect and they were absolutely pumped. There were more arms up in the air, dancing, chants (when she wasn't singing),  and many "I LOVE YOU's."
After two back-to-back shows, Kelela clearly left LA fans wanting more and we are likely to get more Kelela--soon--probably very soon and in a bigger venue. Alright #Skeezies consider yourselves warned.

Hollywood Palladium to the Echo -- Jessy Lanza/ Cut Copy/ Kelela Reviews

I must admit going to two shows in one night was a little tiring but nothing #LAskeez couldn't handle. After circling the near by blocks a few times around the Palladium (I refuse to pay for parking, it's the principle!) I found parking and made it inside with 5 mins to spare.
Jessy Lanza started her set but she had this sense of uneasiness during her first song. Once her first song ended she ran off stage to grab a power cord for her laptop. After the power cord crisis was resolved, the set continued and everyone danced like there was no tomorrow minus the guy two feet away from me, he oddly enough kept trying to start a mosh pit--I think he was at the wrong show but who knows maybe that's just how he dances.

Cut Copy was of course Cut Copy. They started their set with newer songs and saved their older material towards the end.

Oh and did I mention #LAskeez met Jessy Lanza (again)?

Here some photos from last night.

WAIT there's more! Night didn't stop here my #skeezies!! Off to The Echo #LAskeez went! Parking was found almost instantaneously (total score). I walked in right when Kelela started her FIRST set in Los Angeles. My vibe switched to a fun electronic-ness to smooth operator/shut up and listen to these soulful vocal chords. I left the show convinced that Kelela is ready to become a star.  She shared with the audience how she was a telemarketer and almost lost her job while listening to the track of "Bank Head" on the job. With her voice I'm sure she was a great telemarketer and probably the only telemarketer I wouldn't hang up on but let's face it she was definitely destined to be using her voice to entertain and move everyone that listens. Don't kill me for saying this if you disagree but #LAskeez would compare her to a female version of The Weekend but 10x.

Live videos from both shows are to be uploaded soon. For now I hope the #skeezies have enjoyed the photos.
Kelela @ The Echo April 1st, 2014
What's the #Skeez today?!?

Let's just say #LAskeez enjoyed Kelela's set more than peanut butter loves jelly so #LAskeez will be headed down to The Echo AGAIN to catch her second and final show here in LA before she takes off to NYC.
