First Aid Kit/ Dodgers/ Kings

It's Wednesday and just two more days until the weekend!
Don't you love Holiday Weekends?
I mean who doesn't, it makes the week after that much shorter.
Okay let's get into the business.

Interested in seeing a show tonight?
Of course you are.
Over at the El Rey Theatre, First Aid Kit will be performing.
They are a sister duo band from Sweden and they're worth checking out on this lovely Wednesday.

Last night the Dodgers beat the +Cincinnati Reds 3-6
If the win wasn't enough to keep the crowd happy, the Ryu Bobble head give-away certainly was a win-win. A few luckily folks even won a trip to Korea! What can #LAskeez say, Dodger blue is international.

Don't forget to tune in tonight at 5:00pm to watch the +Los Angeles Kings take on the +Chicago Blackhawks as they lead the series 3-1.

Tuesday LA Sports Talk Edition

Game 5 +Los Angeles Clippers vs +Oklahoma City Thunder is tonight at 6:30!
Donald Sterling once again shocked the world with a very interesting exclusive interview with +Anderson Copper. In case the #skeezies  haven't seen it, here it is. The second video has all the smack talk on Magic Johnson.

Sooo the Kings lost last night to the Ducks. Laaaame. They better get it together for tomorrow's game at 6:30pm.

+Dodger Fans will be flocking to the Chavez Ravine for the Puig bobble head giveaway. #LAskeez will be in attendance while simultaneously keeping an eye on the Clipper score.

James Franco--Convincingly Creepy High School Girls Soccer Coach--Palo Alto

James Franco plays a convincingly creepy high school girls soccer coach in the new movie Palo Alto.
Tuesday evening #LAskeez was invited to an exclusive premier over at the +ArcLight Cinemas to see the movie Palo Alto,  written and directed by Gia Coppola, based on the short stories of James Franco.

Following immediately after the movies was a Q&A with the director Gia Coppola, (if the name sounds familiar that's because it is. Francis Ford Coppola is her grandpops  and Sofia Coppola is her Aunt)  and even Emma Roberts sat in on some Q&A action! Must be nice, it seemed like every Hollywood celebrity's kid/relative had a role in this movie that was funded by James Franco. Van Kilmer's son, Jack Kilmer made his debut in the movie as well. Anyway the movie perfectly captures the many experiences of high school without focusing on the perfect cheerleader or loner teenager. Palo Alto oddly reminded #LAskeez of the mid-90s movie Kids but if you can look past that, it's entertaining enough.

For all you +American Horror Story fans, Emma Roberts shared with the audience that the filming will be taking place in July and her role is yet to be determined.

Check out the trailer for Palo Alto:

Q&A from left to right:Moderator, Gia Coppola, Girl in movie, Emma Roberts

LA sports talk:

+Los Angeles Clippers lost last night to the +Oklahoma City Thunder  101-112. It's all good the Clippers did their job and took one win away from this road trip and will play Game 3 here in LA.

+Los Angeles Kings play Game 3 today against the +Anaheim Ducks at 7:00pm.

+Los Angeles Dodgers are on a loosing steak and lost to the +Washington Nationals yesterday 2-3. Hopefully the boys in blue can pull it together today against the +San Francisco Giants at 7:00pm.

Making headlines in the LA times and all over the internet---Donald Sterling's wife Shelly Sterling,  has no intentions on selling +Los Angeles Clippers. Shelly, is a co-owner of the team and in her little head thinks it's okay to hold on to them. She has also been accused in the past of making racists comments about minorities. The NBA better make right of this situation ASAP.

Tuesday/ LA Sports Talk--Clippers/Kings

Hope the #skeezies aren't too hung over today.
If you are that probably means you consumed too much tequila.
Keep the Mexican theme going and go for some tacos! It's Taco Tuesday!
"Taco taco taco burrito."

Let's get down to what's on every Angelinos mind.

What a game! +Los Angeles Clippers beat the +Oklahoma City Thunder in a crushing Game 1 performance 122-105+Chris Paul was sizzling hott as he made eight 3-pointers! Paul was playing as if he was the one earning the MVP title Kevin Durant just earned today. #LAskeez predicted the Clippers in 6 but if last night was any indication of how the following games will play out, we might witness a SWEEEEP.

Speaking of "sweeps" the +Los Angeles Kings beat the +Anaheim Ducks 3-1!  There's nothing mighty about them ducks and the Kings are that much closer to another Stanley Cup.

The +Los Angeles Dodgers should of completed the trifecta---
But they lost yet again to the +Washington Nationals 0-4.

As far as playoffs are concerned you couldn't "BEAT LA" last night.
"LA BEAT YOU"

Cinco De Mayo/ The Must

Happy Cinco De Mayo #skeezies
Today's the another excuse for everyone to get drunk off of coronas, margaritas and tequila shots.
Cinco De Mayo isn't a big deal in Mexico since it's not Mexican Independence day but for whatever reason beer companies here in the US wanted to captivate the hispanic consumer so Cinco De Mayo was pushed as a day of celebration.
Where to go today?
Olvera Street for the 84th Cinco De Mayo celebration.
It is one of the oldest places in LA and every year they have music, games, and fun. Just be careful, LAPD is out in full force.
It's not the best place to go for Mexican food but it's all about the atmosphere and they do have good churros. Which I'm all of a sudden craving. And a donkey that you can take a picture on. PETA are you really okay with that?

Last night #LAskeeze headed over to the Must.
Happy Hour is from 3-7.
You can get $3 sliders, $5 Mac and Cheese, $3 Tater tots, and for you drinkers $2 can beer to $5 sangria.
Need your fortune read? Zoltare is located inside the Must. Just take a dollar bill and you're set.
This is definitely a Downtown LA must. Hence the name.
A word to the wise, DTLA is still up and coming so be careful where you park.

The Must

Sports Time:

There's going to be a lot of channel switching tonight.

+Los Angeles Dodgers play the +Washington Nationals today at 4:05pm.

+Los Angeles Clippers play Game 1 against +Oklahoma City Thunder  tonight at 6:30pm.

+Los Angeles Kings play Game 2 against the +Anaheim Ducks today at 7:00pm.

May The Fourth Be With You/Free Comic Book Day

May The Fourth Be With You.
+Star Wars Fans today is your day, to geek out and re-watch all the Star Wars episodes.
Today also happens to be "Free Comic Book Day" so for those of you #skeezies that enjoy comics, hit up your local comic book store to grab yourself a free issue.
The Los Angeles Comic Book and Sci Fi Convention is the place to be. +Tim Matheson who is best known for the voice of +Johnny Quest will be in signing autographs, if you're into that.
Boatylicious last night was oh so delicious. Sorry #skeezies-I really couldn't help myself. The fine folks at +Take2Entertainment  can sure put on a good boat party. If dancing on a boat deck to the latest electronic music with the beautiful Long Beach skyline and sunset in the background, isn't your idea of a good saturday night, I really don't know what is. The 3 deck Catalina Express boat was packed (yet not overly crowded) with eager partygoers. The first 2 decks had live music and the top/3rd deck was serving up delicious tacos. Keep an eye out for the next Boatylicious event. The next one is on July 6th--but sadly it seems that this event is already sold-out.

Sports Recap:

+Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the +Miami Marlins again 4-5.

+Los Angeles Clippers beat the +Golden State Warriors last night 121-126. They advance to the next round of the playoffs and will be playing the +Oklahoma City Thunder. The game will be tomorrow at 6:30pm.

+Los Angeles Kings beat the +Anaheim Ducks yesterday 3-2!

Go LA!

NHM review/ Boatylicious Concert Cruise: Kastle/ Le Youth/ Plastic Plates

Who would have thought to combine prehistoric dinosaur bones with cool hipster music? Great job +Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County First Friday's! #LAskeez can now say claim to have partied next to the bones of a t-rex.
Next month is the last "First Friday" so for you #skeezies here in LA, make sure you make it out, before you have to wait until next year.
+Amoeba music was also in the mix last night. They were offering $20 gift certificates for $10!! Such a bargain #LAskeez purchased the max limit of 2 per person. These gift certificates will make excellent gifts or make for a fun shopping date at Amoeba.

Party + Boat = Delicious
#LAskeez is headed out to +Boatylicious
I'm being serious that is the actual name of today's event-- +Boatylicious

It's such a beautiful day #LAskeez could not think of a better way to spend a Saturday.
Kastle, Le Youth, & Plastic Plates will all be performing on the cruise.
Make sure to take your boat shoes, sunblock, and good attitude.

First Fridays

It's the first Friday of the month.
"First Fridays" here in LA mean one thing and one thing only.
The +Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County  is the place to be.
If it's the place to be you better believe #LAskeez will be there too.
"First Fridays" start in January and end in June.
Tonights event is the second to last and a good one it will be. haha that sounded like something Yoda would say.
Don't worry #skeezies this is not a strictly educational field trip although learning a thing or two is never a bad thing. Let's go over a typical "First Friday" experience while informing the #skeezies of tonight's itinerary:

Show up early for a tour, space is limited to 15 ppl per tour. Today's tour is on the "Tracking and Trapping L.A.'s Wildlife"---They take off at 5pm, 5:30pm, 6pm.

Today's discussion is about "Back to the Future: The Scientific and Cultural Importance of Rancho La Brea" hosted by Dr. John Harris.

Tours and discussions not your thing? It's all good because what's next are the DJ sets and Performances.

In the DJ Lounge, DJ Anthony Valadez and DJ Daddy Kev will be spinning from 5:30pm-10pm.
If you're a KCRW listener you know that DJ Anthony Valadez is no joke and he happens to be one of #LAskeez's favorites!

There are two performances tonight.
Groundislava featuring Rare Times at 8pm and Holychild at 9:15pm.

Groundislava

HolyChild

A lot to look forwarded to tonight. #LAskeez will post some photos of tonights event tomorrow.
Now time for the sports recap.

+Los Angeles Clippers lost to the +Golden State Warriors last night 99-100.
Game 7 is tomorrow at 7:30pm.

+Los Angeles Dodgers had a victorious double header yesterday against the +Minnesota Twins.
Winning the first game 9-4 and the second game 4-3.
The Dodgers play the +Miami Marlins today at 4:10pm.

+Los Angeles Kings play the +Anaheim Ducks in an intense freeway rivalry, second round of the playoffs tomorrow at 5:00pm.

LA is thousand times better than the OC so there is no doubt in #LAskeez's mind that the Kings will easily win this round. Maybe even sweep. Okay maybe the sweep part was a bit too much. The point is, GO KINGS!

MAY DAY!/ A Stellar week for LA Hoop Fans

MAY DAY!
MAY DAY!
It's international workers day.
There's demonstrations worldwide.
Thousands of Angelenos are getting ready to March starting from China Town all the way down to City Hall.
Justice for low wage workers!
Be prepared for more traffic tie ups.
Speaking of which this morning on the 110 fwy right in the heart of Downtown LA, a puppy stopped traffic! How the little puppy made it on to the freeway is a mystery. How three police officers promptly came to the aid of the scene is a even bigger mystery. Next time #LAskeez needs the police to show up anywhere #LAskeez will tell them there's a puppy on the loose.

+Los Angeles Police  chasing a puppy on the 110 fwy this morning.

 Time for Sports

D'Antoni out, Sterling on his way out---a Stellar week for LA hoop Fans.
The hunt for a new +Los Angeles Lakers  Coach is in full swing.
The question is who will it be?
No more busts! Give the fans a fan favorite!
Byron Scott? Kurt Rambis?
Laker Fans, let's hope for the best.
This whole not watching your team in the NBA playoffs is a very strange concept to Laker Fans and it will not be a norm.
Not now, not ever.

As for the +Clipper's -- everyone's name is popping up as a potential buyer. Oprah, Magic, Diddy, Floyd Mayweather. ERRRYBODY!
Anyway Clippers play Game 6 tonight at 7:30pm against the Golden State Warriors.

+Los Angeles Dodgers  made history against the +Minnesota Twins  last night by winning 6-4. However, it was the Dodgers 10,000th victory! Milestone.
The Dodgers join the +Atlanta Braves, +Chicago Cubs  (hard to believe but they are one of the oldest teams 1870s), +San Francisco Giants, +St. Louis Cardinals, +Cincinnati Reds, and the +Pittsburgh Pirates. Where are the +New York Yankees ? They're not there yet! That's because they are a younger team compared to the 10,000 victory club teams.

+Los Angeles Kings advance to the next round of the NHL playoffs by defeating the +San Jose Sharks last night 5-1

Get it LA!

Boy George Review/ Mean Girls : "Wednesdays We Wear Pink"

I always considered Boy George to be an edgy trendsetter. Someone who lives on the edge. But time and finding Jesus can definitely make a person change and that is exactly what happened last night.
After hearing 45 minutes worth of songs about God, Jesus, and "My God is bigger than your God"-- #LAskeez was almost ready to make a u-turn out of the venue when he finally played "Do you really want to hurt me?",  along with some other classics.  For all you Culture Club fans out there #LAskeez has some #skeez for you #skeezies ----The Culture Club is set to start recording a new album this year! Typically after a band records an album they go on tour so expect some good things later this year. You heard it first from #LAskeez
As far as the Belasco Theater is concerned, it is in some desperate need of ventilation! People where sweating buckets inside the venue and that is just not acceptable. This wasn't an underground warehouse show so there should of been a few pocket holes of air circulating the joint.

+Boy George  +Belasco Theater

Autographed +Boy George Concert Poster

The +Belasco Theater doesn't have a marquee so they used the Mayan's.

Mean Girls

"On Wednesdays we wear pink"
My oh my how time flies.
Today is the 10 year anniversary of Mean Girls!
Mean Girls was an automatic pop culture phenomena much in the same way as the movie Clueless.
Gays, teens, and everyone else will find the antics in the movies relatable and hilarious for years to come. Undoubtedly a timeless classic.

Although the movie is funny from beginning to end; #LAskeez's narrowed it down to 5 of our favorite scenes.

1. "Wednesdays We Wear Pink"

2. "Evil took a human form in Regina George"

3. "If you're going to drink, I'd rather you do it in the house"

4. "She doesn't even go here"

5. "I can't go to Taco Bell, I'm on an ALL CARB DIET"

Re-watch Mean Girls today in honor of the 10 year anniversary! Its just as funny as if you watched it for the first time 10 years ago today.

LA Sports recap:

Clippers beat the Warrios 103-113.
If you happened to have a billion dollars laying around consider
buying this NBA team that will be for sale soon.

Kings play the Sharks tonight at 7:00pm for a game 7.

Dodgers play the Twins tonight at 5:10pm. Go BLUE!

You Stay Classy San Diego/ Only Lovers Left Alive/ Clippers

#LAskeez decided to switch it up a bit over the weekend and headed over to San Diego.
Although I once considered San Diego to be nothing more than LA's small and boring stepsister of the south; I have to admit that it has grown on me over the years.
Were San Diego lacks in terms of big city excitement, it definitely makes up in natural beauty and sheer chill and relaxation. Cute Neighborhoods like North Park and Hillcrest along with beautiful sights like Balboa Park, make San Diego a good weekend getaway.

Saturday was a very patriotic day.
#LAskeez  had an exclusive tour on the United States Coast Guard Bertholf Ship. It's typically in Alameda but they were in port in SD. The Bertholf can be found patrolling various parts of South America or up North near Alaska busting illegal fisheries among other cool stuff.
It was quite a memorable experience and it definitely makes me appreciate (even more) the men and women that serve and protect the United States.

The Bertholf in all it's Glory

#LAskeez behind the steering wheel

The little boats on the big boat

The whole ship looks like this. Very confusing to remember.

After our tour #LAskeez spent the remainder of the evening hanging out in Hillcrest and had the chance to watch the movie +Only lovers left alive  at the +Landmark Cinemas. To sum it up it's about how present day vampires would be, without the whole glamorization.
The cinematography is awesome and the movie has a bunch of music related references.
It's definitely a movie to catch.
Here's a trailer so you #skeezies can decided for yourself whether or not you are interested.

Hillcrest Sign in the Evening

Sunday #LAskeez drove up to North Park to check out some vinyl at Off the Record. Then headed back down to relax at Spanish Landings before the drive in traffic back to LA.
North Park +San Diego

Spanish Landings +San Diego

San Diego was an impromptu adventure but it was a fun one nevertheless. #LAskeez is happy to be back in Los Angeles where the smog makes the best sunsets in the world and the traffic is always heavier.

As Ron Burgundy would say:

Sports recap:

Dodgers lost yesterday to the Colorado Rockies 6-1.

Clippers lost to the Warriors 97-118.

The Kings play the Sharks tonight for Game 6 of the NHL playoffs.

Clippers two cents:

#LAskeez has never been fully able to become a Clipper fan because of Donald Sterling. It's been no secret here in LA for MANY years that he is a racist. The NBA can no longer sweep his racist comments/allegations under the rug, thanks to +TMZ releasing the tape.  The Clippers deserve a respectable team owner and the +NBA must take immediate action.
